Toccoa Camp is surrounded by outdoor recreational treasure spots. The immediate vicinity offers incredible trout fishing right outside your front door. Hot House Creek and the Toccoa River both are brimming with hardy brown and rainbow trout populations. Other nearby trout waters include Jacks River, the Conasauga River and Fightingtown Creek. The two rivers parallel each other through the Cohutta Wilderness Area and offer excellent angling for native rainbow, brown, and brook trout.

Toccoa Camp residents also can enjoy whitewater adventure at many of the surrounding rivers, including the Ocoee, Cartecay, Amicalola and Toccoa Rivers while the popular Nantahala River, also nearby, boasts Class III rapids.
Toccoa Camp also provides residents with plenty of area lakes. For example, Lake Blue Ridge is located less than 10 minutes from the community and is one of Georgia’s most picturesque mountain lakes. The 3,290 acre lake is home to bass, bream, catfish, perch and crappie. Lake Nottely, a 4,180 acre lake nestled in the mountains and valleys of the Chattahoochee National Forest, offers 106 miles of shoreline. The small mountain lake has clear deep water and abundant populations of striper, black and striped bass, walleye and rainbow trout.
At 3,200 acres, Carters Lake lies along a spectacular tract of foothills near Ellijay in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia. Its sparkling waters and rugged shoreline provide a beautiful surrounding for a variety of recreational opportunities, including camping, fishing, picnicking, boating, mountain biking and hunting.
Two other nearby lakes include Lake Hiwassee and Apalachia Lake. Lake Hiwassee, surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest, offers spectacular scenery and tranquility. This beautiful mountain lake, covering 6,090 acres with almost 180 miles of shoreline, offers boating, water-skiing, swimming and fishing opportunities. Fish within the reservoirs include bluegill, yellow perch and muskie. Apalachia Lake is located in the Appalachian Mountains of Cherokee County in western North Carolina. This scenic mountain lake features 31 miles of shoreline and more than 1,000 acres of water. Fish in Apalachia Lake include smallmouth and largemouth bass, white bass, walleye and trout.
Golf is another activity that you will have plenty of time to enjoy while living at Toccoa Camp. Brasstown Valley resort, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, offers a spectacular mountain golf experience. The Brasstown Valley Golf Club has been ranked by both Golf Digest and Leading Golf Courses of America as one of the top courses to play in Georgia.
Butternut Creek Golf Course, which features 6,536 yards of dramatic fairways, is one of the area’s finest public golf courses. Blue Ridge Golf & River Club, located in Blue Ridge, Georgia, is a Bunker Hill designed course that is scheduled to open this summer. In addition, Whitepass and Cherokee Hills Golf Course in Murphy, North Carolina, are easily accessible.
Music, arts and crafts also are a big part of the popular mountain culture near Toccoa Camp. This southern Appalachian region is known for its Scotch-Irish culture, and the musicians, craftsmen and artists that call the area home keep this heritage is alive. Pickin’ in the Park, a series of weekly live musical performances, takes places from May through September along the Toccoa River in McCaysville, just four miles away. This music series is a short 15 minute drive from Blue Ridge and offers genres such as Bluegrass, Oldtime, Jazz, Folk, Gospel, Reggae, Classical and Barber Shop.
